hurricane erika

I survived my first hurricane!  Don't worry Uncle Joe, it was actually just a tropical storm and didn't even hit us but it did rain all night.  I am currently looking out my window and the waves of the sea are a lot choppier today as well.  Although it's nice not to have been hit by a storm, the school took precautions and cancelled our catamaran trip to Nevis that was supposed to be tomorrow and will reschedule it for later in the semester.  It was really really windy today so we didn't take a tour of the island or go to the fortress so hopefully we can do those things tomorrow instead of the trip.

The last two days we have listened to lectures on our curriculum, security, and life on the island.  They were very long and boring at times so it will be nice to go out tonight and tomorrow during the day and take a break from our freezing classroom.  It's such a pleasure to walk out into 90 degree heat from those rooms.  But that lasts about 2 seconds and then you want air conditioning again.

Tonight we are going to watch a fire eater perform at Shiggidy Shack which is a bar/restaurant which I am really excited about.  This weekend there are no orientation plans so a few of us are trying to decide whether to go hiking to a bat cave, horseback riding in the rainforest or zip lining.  Tough life here on a caribbean island ... at least until Monday.
